Christ is still in Christmas
Dear Ms. Rieckhoff, I could not agree with you more. I am not poking fun at you when I say that your letter reminds me of the old joke, "I finally found Jesus, he was behind the sofa the whole time."
What is missing from "Christmas" are Christian's whose behavior reflects their supposed Christianity. Wal-Mart and the public schools are not Christians by definition. They have no everlasting soul to be saved through faith. Those who suggest that Christ has been taken out of "Christmas" do not mean to suggest that thier behavior is found to be lacking in "Christ"mas spirit.
What they mean to suggest through their outpouring of faith in public discussion is that there should be NO OTHER VIEW OR BEHAVIOR exhibited other than that with which they approve - that is, no Menorahs, no Kwanza, no anything but a cross and a nativity scenere.
These are the same people who have no problem standing in line at Wal-Mart and other retailers for hours in order to obtain the "must have" gift for their children but would never consider standing in line to serve food to the homeless on Christmas Eve or Day or even consider the disgusting need of the homeless in order to hand deliver, in private, without trumpeting out loud their "Christian" charity, to deliver a gift of a blanket or warm meal.
Yes, indeed. Those who complain of the lack of Christ in Christmas are the first to blame. For, if there is a lack of Christian behavior, during and before the Christmas holiday, who is there to blame other than Christians for the lack thereof. Are we to blame the Jew and Muslims for the lack of Christian behavior which would truly reflect the "spirit" of the holiday. I think not.
If there is a lack of Christ in Christmas it is because of the hypocritical comments from Christians who talk, but due to the inconvenience, will "talk the talk, but not walk the walk" of their faith.
Hypocrites one and all.

To all the people out there who are upset about Christ being taken out of Christmas: It is not the responsibility of Wal-Mart, public schools or the media to put Him back in. I didn't even know He was missing.
If you really want to put Christ back into Christmas, ask yourself WWJD? And then do it. Feed the hungry; help the poor; comfort the sick. Stop whining that whenever you go to the mall to render unto Caesar there isn't a plastic, pre-lit manger scene in front of Victoria's Secret or Sears.
Go buy some gloves and scarves and take them to the homeless shelter. Volunteer to serve Christmas dinner at the Salvation Army, or visit a nursing home to spread a little cheer. Some of those folks will have no one at Christmas. Take some baked goods to your local fire or police station on Christmas morning.
You will see that Christ never left Christmas. He is all around, if you look.
